MASSIVE hair is going to be in next season – if Kaia Gerber has anything to say about it
Kaia Gerber stepped out on the runway for the Valentino Haute Couture show and her huge, mega-volumised hairstyle has to be seen to be believed…
Relaxed, undone, textured… that’s the lingo we’ve become accustomed to when it comes to hair trends over the last few years – but it’s all about to change (at least if model-of-the-moment Kaia Gerber has anything to say about it). The 16-year-old fashion it-girl just had the most major of hair moments at the Valentino Haute Couture 2018 show, where she rocked a big, OTT mane to the max. The creation of hair supremos Josh Wood and Guido Palau, we’re not surprised the internet is going wild for the look. Love it or hate it (though we’re firmly in the love category), it could be the next big hair trend – quite literally.
Now that’s a hair moment
With Pat McGrath on makeup duty, it really was the stuff of beauty dreams – and Kaia even took to her Instagram to revel in the iconic moment. “@maisonvalentino HAUTE COUTURE. @pppiccioli words cannot describe how much this moment means to me. You are a visionary and being able to wear your art is a true honor,” she said.
She also took to her Instagram Stories to thank Guido, saying, “this hair moment was everything and more”. Both hairdressers posted a shot of the look on their own accounts, with colourist Josh describing the look as “hair upon hair upon hair” – just seven models wore the sky-high look, yet it took 50 wigs to create the end result. That’s couture, darling!
Josh said of the colour he created: “We created a new technique in balayage at Valentino: ribbon-lights. Thick, single pieces of hair that are freehand painted to create dimension and distinction, but still look natural. It’s hair colour that’s ‘better than natural’, a technique that mimics how hair is lightened by the environment, rather than in a salon.”
His inspiration? The humble British biscuit – be still our beating hearts. “Our colour palette inspiration for this show was ‘biscuity brunettes’; chocolatey tones highlighted by delicious ‘rich tea’ ends,” he added. Er, yum. Could it get any better?
